Olympian Sally Gunnell OBE to present Great Ormond Street Hospital with a cheque for £75,000

Tumble Tots (UK) Ltd, the nationwide physical play programme for children is pleased to announce we have raised £75,000 for there charity of the year, Great Ormond Street Hospital.  The money raised will build and equip a suite of rooms including a playroom named after Tumble Tots for the children at the world class hospital.  The rooms will be located within the Imaging Centre, which is a vital tool in diagnosing and treating childhood illnesses.

GOSH is a profoundly important asset to children all over the country, providing the most specialist services for children under one roof in the UK and treating those with the most complex, rare and often life threatening problems.  Children are referred from all over the country and abroad.

Both Tumble Tots and GOSH place a strong emphasis on play and fun so it is fitting that Tumble Tots members will now be able to help children at GOSH through play.  The main activity throughout Nationwide was a Tumble Tots Rollover4GOSH where children gained sponsorship by performing different rolls.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to support such a worth while charity which has a strong link to all of us who have children and work with children” says Nikki Ainger, Tumble Tots franchisee of Southend on Sea.

Sally Gunnell says “I am thrilled to be presenting a cheque to Great Ormond Street Hospital for £75,000.  As a mum and Tumble Tots ambassador the work carried out at GOSH is unique and has special meaning to all of us with children”.

Play is a vital tool used by professionals at GOSH to help its young patients and their families cope with being in hospital.  Every ward has a dedicated Play Specialist who looks after the emotional, psychological and developmental needs of the patients and their families.  Play helps to normalise what could otherwise be a daunting hospital experience, it is used to prepare for and explain treatment and is often an outlet for children’s feelings.

Tumble Tots believes that every child should have the opportunity to experience the joys of growing up and by helping Great Ormond Street Hospital they will be giving the nation’s sickest children a chance to do just that… grow up.

Notes to editors:

1. Tumble Tots is the leading national active play programme for children from six months to seven years. Designed to develop children’s skills of agility, balance, climbing and co-ordination as well as their positive social skills of self-confidence and self-esteem, Tumble Tots is the brainchild of an ex-national Olympic Gymnastics coach. Tumble Tots has more than 500 centres in the UK and 60,000 members. Since its inception in 1979, more than a million children worldwide has benefited from the programme

2. Every year we need to raise £50 million through charitable donations. Whilst the NHS meets the day to day running costs of the hospital, the fundraising income allows GOSH to remain at the forefront of child healthcare. Without it we would not be able to offer the same specialist treatments and services and to have the buildings and paediatric equipment that we need. We would also not be able to continue the level of pioneering research that has led to so many new advances for children both in the UK and across the world.
